Friday's Letters [08.17]

It's another edition of Friday Letters with Adventures of Newlyweds!

Photobucket

Dear Harris Teeter manager, Thank you for sharing more couponing secrets from the other side.

Dear summer vacation, It was nice while it lasted. I'm sorry to see you go, but know that your return will be that much sweeter following your absence. Keep up the great work when it comes to relaxing people.

Dear crockpot, How could I have forgotten about all your magical qualities?? You have reintroduced a whole new level of quality to our week's meals. Be prepared to get kicked back into high gear when our schedules pick up in the coming weeks!

Dear robot checkers on websites, I promise I am not a robot so please let me buy my product or add my comment. It's not my fault you scramble things up so beyond anything readable that I cannot decipher your code.

Dear years of swim practice, I am pleased to report that the thousands of hours I spent in the pool as a kid were not a total waste. The other day that hubby and I went up to the pool to swim a few laps and it all came right on back to me. In fact I actually got a little nostalgic and maybe even missed the green hair and smell of chlorine constantly emanating from me. Maybe.

Thankful Thursday-Beach Music

I love beach music
I always have and I always will
There ain't no other kind of music in the world that gives me quite the thrill
When I hear...
60 minute man, and walkin' up the one-way street
He's up on the roof, he's under the boardwalk
Summertime's a-callin' me
-The Embers

As always, I have MUCH to be thankful for this week. Here is a glimpse at all the awesome in my life:

sisters
Brothers are awesome too, but there is just something about the bond between sisters that is indescribable.

supportive husbands
How superb is a hubby who encourages me to do whatever makes me happy?? Pretty superb:-)

coupons
This week is SUPER DOUBLES at the Teeter. That means they will double coupons up to $2.00. How sweet is that? I spent roughly $30 and saved $107!! Hard to beat savings like that!

lazy days on the beach
Earlier this week and the next few days were just what the doctor ordered for this tired teacher!

summer fruits & veggies
I love all the fresh foods that are available at this time of year. They are really encouraging us to expand our taste buds. I don't hate it.

wonderful friends & family who voted for me
I was selected as one of the winners!! My plate will now be made! Thank you all VERY much:-)

massages
Enough said.

What are you thankful for this week??

Friday's Letters [05.18]

It's another FANTASTIC Friday with Adventures of Newlyweds!

Dear week, I thought you would never end. I am oh so appreciative of the fact that you are now done. This means that we have less than two weeks left of this dreadfully long month.

Dear hair, puh-leeze stop falling out. When I heard all the side-effects of prednisone I never thought your departure would be one of them. The good news is I have a lot of you. The bad news is I have a lot of you and you are showing up in our drains, on my brushes, and pretty much every where. Please stay on my head.

Dear students, Thank you so much for all your hard work this week. I know you have been at your absolute wit's end with all this testing but all your teachers appreciate your effort on the tests! Just a few more weeks until you are free from us for an entire summer!

Dear Kelsey, We are so excited to see you marry the love of your life on Saturday!! I know you are going to be a gorgeous bride and that Casey won't know what to do with himself when he sees you walk down that aisle.

A picture of us freshman year at NCSU

Dear Harris Teeter, I really appreciate the triple coupons this week. I spent $43 but was able to save $86! How about you triple coups more often? Appreciate it!

Dear Davido, I honestly don't even know where to begin. You have been such an amazing support system these past few weeks with all the crazy going on. Every time I feel like I am going to crumble you prevent me from falling. I am so grateful for your utter amazingness and cannot wait to have an actual date night tonight!! I promise to try my best not to fall asleep before 8;-)

Dear cows, Thank you for entertaining the princess last night. You saved me hours of tossing the frisbee around the backyard.

Thankful Thursday-Chuggin' Along

Keep chuggin' along
Keep singing your song
Put the plow in the ground till the daylights gone
When you look back over your shoulder
At everything you've done
Put the good times in your pocket
Let the bad ones make you strong
Keep chuggin' along
-Luke Bryan

Sometimes in the thick of the crazy it is hard to remember the things we are thankful for. We become so focused on the negative that we forget to remember the positive. I'm at that point this week. It seems that every time I get up, I get knocked back down. Instead of allowing myself to dwell on the negative, I'm going to focus on the positive. Here are the things I am thanking the Lord for this week:

rain
My grass and I are oh so very grateful for this respite from the dry, windy days. Not to mention that my allergies are jumping for joy at the rain washing the pollen away!
kind neighbors
I am very thankful for kind neighbors stepping up and looking out for me when I need it most! This people are serious awesome sauce.
coupons
It's super-doubles at the Harris Teeter AND Lowes Food this week-WAHOOO! My wallet and I are very appreciative of this little bonus.

bloggers
I am very grateful for my sweet blog friends and their kind comments!

crop share
I am grateful that a new season has come and we are back to picking up our weekly half-share from the farm (a full post to come on this awesomeness later!)

What are you thankful for this week??

Community Group
These people are wonderful. The end. The love and compassion they show for us despite our brokenness is inspiring. This is the type of community God called us to live in!

Free-Ninety-Nine

If there is one thing I love, it's a good deal. And, boy do I have a good deal to tell y'all about! A few weeks ago I visited the tortuous eye doctor. The man himself isn't horrible by any means. In fact, he is quite kind. I've just always despised the eye doctor. Everything from the bright lights to the drops to the wait time has put me over the edge. But alas, once a year I must suck it up and visit the torture chamber.

Now, you may be wondering "what in heaven's name is she going on about the eye doctor for?". Hang tight; I'm getting there! Anywho, prior to the visit David and I decided I was overdue for a new pair of glasses. It may have been the outdated prescription or the chewed arm thanks to the princess that sealed their coffin, but I was in need of a new pair of bifocals. After checking out the eye doctor's pitiful stash of glasses I decided to hold off. I figured if I was going to pay that much for a pair of glasses, I was going to love the darn things!

I headed home ticked off at the eye doctor and partially blind thanks to his magical drops. I logged onto to facebook for my daily stalking check-in to see what was going on. Lo and behold there is a coupon code for a new pair of glasses! It felt like one of those TV moments where the heavens open up and the light shines down. So I popped on over to Coastal.com to check out what they had going on. Boy howdy am I glad that I did! They had pages and pages of adorable glasses to choose from at very reasonable prices. What could make this situation better? Oh, I don't know the fact that the coupon code was for a FREE pair of glasses! You read that right folks, your first pair of glasses through them is FREE-ninety-nine!

So what do y'all think???

I ordered them on a Saturday and they were here by the following Saturday-score! All you need is your prescription and a measurement of your face and you too can be on your way to free happiness! What are you waiting for? Go!

All opinions in this post are my own and were in no way influenced by Coastal.com. They don't even know I love them enough to blog about them:-)

Thankful Thursday-All Your Life

Would you walk to the edge of the ocean
Just to fill my jar with sand
Just in case I get the notion
To let it run through my hand
Let it run through my hand
-The Band Perry

Happy Thursday one and all! As with every week, I have much to be thankful for. Here are a few things on my radar this week:

coupons
I know it sounds silly, but they really are awesome!
fresh veggies
It's been another delicious week at our supper table thanks to Barbee Farms!

solid friendships
This week I got to spend a great amount of time with two girls I have known since I was three and I received an uplifting call from a new friend. Talk about a great week!

family visits
So grateful for the time we had to visit with family the past two weeks and the upcoming visits. It's amazing how rejuvenating that time can be.
heat
I am so grateful for the modern convenience of heat when it dips down to 18 degrees around here!
What are you thankful for this week??

Thankful Thursday-We Were Made For You

There is no one like You
You are the only Truth.
In a world that's so confused,
There is no one like You
-Aaron Gillespie

I have so much to be thankful for in my life, but here are a few highlights from this week:

blogger app
(I love that I now have this app to blog from whenever I'm out and about. No excuses from me anymore!)

teamwork
(it is amazing how well things work when people work as a team. I am blessed to be a part of some stellar teams at work, church, and even in my relationships. If your team isn't working, figure out why and get it there!)

my kiddos
(I really lucked out with awesome kids. How many 8th graders do you know that would ask you every day how you're feeling and if they could have a hug? Not many!)

super double coupons
(hooray for Harris Teeter helping the Mobleys save some mad moola tho week!)

our neighbors
(I love that we can just sit out and talk with them about anything and everything. Good neighbors can make just about anything better!)

strong support system
(it's incredible how much harder I want to work towards something when i feel supported. At home, church, work, in family relationships, and in friendships I am surrounded by an amazing support system)

Lazy Days

This has been a lazy weekend for the Mobleys. Well at least a lazy weekend for this part of the Mob Squad. David, on the other hand, has been working his booty off for the past three days beautifying our garage. I know some of you may be wondering what exactly the point of beautifying a garage is (yes, this is the same garage we park our cars in), but I was corrected pretty quickly by both my beloved and my father that this was an important project. Have at it fellas, I'll just enjoy my few hours of solitude.

And did I ever enjoy it. Friday evening we had some friends of ours over to touch up the paint in the garage (again, don't ask me) before we had an awesome evening of games, drinks, and laughter. For those of you that are not aware, we're big board gamers. If you ever need another couple for a game, we're your peeps. Anywho, a few hours of painting combined with all the fun of having them over knocked us out and we slept til 9am the next morning. Bliss.

Saturday morning kicked off with a run and an almost two hour trip to the Teeter. It was well worth it though! I spent $67, but saved $73! Nothing like the couponers on TV, but still pretty impressive. I owe it all to the Teeter and their triple coups. The rest of the day was spent tidying up the house and puttering around. After a quick trip to AC Moore to stock up on supplies (see previous post) I decided to take a bubble bath in our giantic garden tub. Best decision ever. Two hours, and 124 pages of my book, later and I am VERY relaxed. The evening was spent relaxing with my love and watching college football. Wonderful.

Sunday kicked off with a great morning at Hope Church with all of our amazing volunteers giving it their all. Then, we were fortunate enough to join another couple (and their sweet baby boy!) for lunch. Gotta love spending time with your community. After lunch we were too full to do much more than loll about on the couch and watch more football. Oh, and take a nap. A very glorious nap I might add.

I'm pretty sure no other weekend is ever going to equal this one in awesomeness.

Coupon Crazy

Who doesn't love a good coupon? I for one positively adore coupons! My obsession started way back in the day with $25 off a $50 purchase from delia*s and quickly progressed to grocery coupons, and even now, "activity" coupons. I'm certainly not a professional, but I have learned a thing or two from some pretty coupon savvy ladies.

For instance, don't ever go to the grocery without a list. That is the number one way to overspend. The number two way? Bring someone else with you. In fact, one time when I was a wee one I overheard my mom telling a friend that she can't afford to take us (the Wardlets) to the grocery store with her because we're so expensive. In my little brain I thought that meant they were charging for kids to enter the store! Only later when I began doing my own grocery shopping did I realize truly how much moola an add-on can tack on to your total.

Anywho. Another way to save mad money is to attack with a plan. take a look at the specials before you get to the store. By doing this you can figure out how much you're saving with each item and if it's even worth buying it. On the topic of specials, look around! You can find the specials listed for an invidual grocery store online, and you can even have most sent to your inbox. While it does get terdious pretty quickly, you are at least able to compare items at different stores and see where your best deal exists.

That leads to the suggestion of shopping at different stores. I must admit I am not so good about this. Honestly, I just don't have the time. I try to scope out the sales at each store and find the best deal, but if it's just a few cents saved it's not worth it to me. Heck, I'll probably spend just as much on gas as I would save!

Another idea is to sign up for tbe special alerts online. For example, each week I get special deals emailed to me from Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods. These deals are often unadvertised, and ridiculously wonderful. One time I got an 18-pack of K-cups for $1.50 thanks to coupons and "evic" deals. Regular price of 18-pack? $12 at Walmart.

Another type of email alerts are the "activity" coupons. These are your things like Groupon, Living Social, Half Off Depot, etc. These are incredible! I cannot tell you how many date nights have been made possible thanks to these little gems. A few personal favorites? $50 to Gap for $20. $20 to Amazon.com for $10. Two Fandango movie tickets for $9. We even have a voucher for two nights at a resort in the mountains (including breakfast both mornings, $50 credit to the spa, and a champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries dessert) for $150. Score!

I saw one woman on TV saying that she spent 60 hours a week couponing. I'm hear to tell ya, it doesn't have to be that intense! Pace yourself and do what you can, when you can. Above all, get out there and look! It's amazing the deals that are there when you open your eyes.
