Winter Weather

This seems appropriate after yesterday:

It's quite comical really. We get a smidge of ice and we are all sent into a bread and milk sandwich panic while Boston has had over 70 inches of snow in less than a month. I think it's safe to say we may overact just a smidge. BUT in our defense, we're not prepared for this kind of weather! Yea, they salted the roads when they heard it was coming, but that can only do so much when it's sleeting and the ice is freezing in a lovely skating rink-like sheet. Snow is one thing, but ice is not something to mess with! And that's what we've had so far.

It snowed a few flakes Monday afternoon before turning into sleet and freezing overnight. We awoke Tuesday morning to what looked like an inch of pretty white snow, but as Daisy quickly realized was snow frozen over into a slippery skating rink. Boooooo. There goes our first snowy adventure with the babe. Probably a good thing as she is still fighting this RSV (though she is doing much better!).  By afternoon the roads were pretty much just slush and by late afternoon they were pretty clear, but to be on the safe side all the local schools closed again for Wednesday.

A whole day with Daddy?? How did I get so lucky??

Sister snugs

So, where does that leave us? Waiting. They're calling for more wintery mix this afternoon with freezing temps tomorrow. And this southern bird is not exaggerating on the cold either. It's dipping down to two degrees tomorrow morning and Friday's high is only in the teens! The high! We're also supposed to get more of an icky mix on Saturday. We're not prepared for this long-term mess! My sweet friend, Jess, and I were texting back and forth yesterday wondering how long it would take Daisy to build a tunnel between our houses and if we would go cuckoo from cabin fever while we waited-haha! Until we can convince Daisy to dig us some tunnels we'll be hanging out by the fire in our cozy clothes counting down the days until Spring. . .

Christmas Pictures 2014

I have always loved sending out Christmas cards and knew that this year would be no different! As soon as the fabulous Jennifer Bartlett of Three Loves Photography sent information out about Christmas sessions I knew we had to snag one. Jennifer blew us away yet again with the great shots she took of our little family! Here are a few of our favorites. . .

Asheville Adventures Part 1

Have I mentioned how much I love North Carolina in the Fall?? There are so many wonderful things you can do here that really show you some of God's wonders, and we got to experience some of them!

We kicked started our weekend a little early on Friday by heading to Sky Top Orchard in Flat Rock, NC about 45 minutes outside of Asheville. This was our second year venturing here after such a great experience last year. We were extra excited to bring Amelia Grace and Daisy this time around. We thought that by going on a Friday earlier in the season we wouldn't have to fight a big crowd, but we couldn't have been more wrong! Last year we parked in the front parking lot, walked right up, picked our apples, got our doughnuts, and headed home. That was definitely not the case this time!

As any parent knows, nothing is the same when you add a baby to the mix! We parked at the back of the orchard and started the march in. We weren't two minutes from the car when I felt something wet on my hand. You guessed it, little miss had exploded poop all over her precious Halloween outfit. Good thing I got a picture before we left the house;-)

David and Daisy continued the march in to explore the situation while Amelia Grace and I went back to the car to clean up.  Once we were all set we met back up and decided to wander around. We didn't realize how much they had to offer! Daisy was a big fan of the farm animals while Amelia Grace decided that a nap was a bit more fun.

We attempted to pick apples, but so many were already gone so we cheated a bit and bought some that had already been picked. We decided the hour-long wait for doughnuts was a bit much so we ended up with a delicious apple pie instead. A worthy trade if you ask me!

After we'd had enough of the orchards we decided it was time to head in the direction of Asheville. Part two coming later this week!

Maternity Pictures

Around 34 weeks we were fortunate enough to meet with the very sweet Jennifer of Three Loves Photography to take a few pictures to remember this journey. We scheduled our session for the evening of July 2. Yep, July 2. Do you realize how hot it is in North Carolina in July?? Jennifer was a miracle worker and despite how crazy hot it was, she still managed to make us look good. A few pictures from our session . . .

As you can see she did an incredible job! If you are in the Charlotte area, contact her! You certainly won't regret it!

Our Scaredy-Cat Dog

If you follow along on Instagram or Twitter you may have seen a few posts here and there about Daisy and her complete and total fear of loud noises.

Anything from David dropping weights in the garage to a thunderclap is enough to send this dog straight into my shrinking lap. What baffles us is that this is a fairly new thing! When we we'd only had her about a week we went out for date night and left her in her crate at our apartment. While we were out a crazy storm came through, so we hurried home to see if our new pup was okay. She was sleeping. I'm not even kidding, slept through the entire apartment-rattling thing. We were so pleased to have gotten drenched as we cut our date short to check on her. Not.

The fireworks have always kind of freaked her out, but never as much as they did this year (hellooooooo, drooling and teeth chattering shakes). And David dropping weights is something she's heard for YEARS, yet as soon as he starts working out she comes running to me and follows me around the house. The list just continues to grow.

A few of her biggest fears. . .
fireworks
the new baby swing
thunder
David working out
the neighbors' obnoxiously loud car revving

I can only imagine what Amelia Grace's screams are going to do to her old lady nerves. . .
